Agentic AI Foundation on Udienza

The Agentic AI Foundation, the Linux Foundation home of MCP, goose, AGENTS.md and A2A, on Udienza: where it came from and why open source should own agentic AI.

About the Agentic AI Foundation

The Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) is the Linux Foundation’s home for the open building blocks of agentic AI: the Model Context Protocol (MCP), goose, AGENTS.md and A2A. Its purpose is to keep the layers that agents are built on open and vendor-neutral, the way the Cloud Native Computing Foundation did for containers and Kubernetes.

Where it came from

The foundation’s origin story starts with a coding harness. Its CTO and co-founder, Manik Surtani, told the show at AGNTCon + MCPCon Europe in Amsterdam how goose began at Block as an internal harness for large language models, before Claude Code existed. Block open sourced it to see what the community would do with it; people started using it, forking it and improving it, and that traction is where the foundation begins.

Why it matters

For teams building on agents, the question is who owns the stack underneath. Manik’s answer is the foundation’s reason to exist:

People need to own their own AI destinies, and this is where open source has a huge role to play.

The episode is How goose led to the AAIF.
